The yard

One gate, one docket, done

We got sick of running trucks across Auckland to tip and coming back empty, so we sorted a tip site and a metal yard on the same patch of dirt in Dairy Flat and opened it up to everyone.

Pull in, tell the bloke in the hut what you've got, tip where he points, load out if you need to, and you're gone. Every load gets a triplicate docket signed by both of us, so nobody's arguing about it later.

How it works

Tipping at the yard

  • First time? Fill in a one-page cleanfill declaration at the hut. Takes two minutes and we only need it once.
  • Tell us what's in the bin. Clean clay and soil is the cheap rate. Anything with concrete, brick or greenery through it is mixed fill, which carries the government levy.
  • Tip where the spotter points. Docket gets filled in with material, truck size and site. You sign, we sign, you keep a copy.
  • Load out if you need to. Pay by EFTPOS at the gate or put it on your account. Cards are fine, credit cards cost 2.5% extra.

Tipper hire

Trucks by the hour

Six-wheeler, eight-wheeler, artic or truck and trailer. We charge by the hour from the yard and back, one hour minimum, then in quarter hours after that.

Use us for muck away off your site, metal delivered to your site, or the round trip that does both. If the spoil's coming back to our yard, the tip is charged at the normal tipping rate. For regular work we'll quote a flat price per load so you can put it straight in your estimate.

We cover the Shore, Rodney, the Hibiscus Coast, Kumeu and out west. Further than that, ring us and we'll price it by the suburb.

Clean fill tip site

Tip it here

Clean, dry clay, soil, rock and topsoil is the clean fill rate. Anything with concrete, brick, cured asphalt or greenery through it is mixed fill, which includes the $15 a tonne government waste levy. Wet clay is fine if you ring first. Slop with no structure we'll price on the day, and some days the answer's no.

Trailers through six-wheelers pay per load by truck size. Eight-wheelers, artics and truck and trailers pay by the tonne over the weighbridge. If a load's well over its truck's payload we charge the extra by the tonne, so don't heap it.

Aggregate supply

Metal, sold by weight

GAP 7, 20, 40, 65 and 100. Spec'd ATAP 40 and 65 and TNZ AP40 if the engineer's asking for it. Drainage metal, SAP 7 and 25/7 and 50/30 scoria, builders mix, Woodhill sand, crushed concrete, asphalt millings, two grades of topsoil, gabion rock and boulders. Cement by the bag.

Everything goes over the weighbridge and you pay by the tonne, so a heaped trailer and a level one cost what they weigh. The price list shows a rough cubic-metre figure next to each product if you're used to thinking in cubes.

Half a tonne is the smallest load we'll put on. Trailers are welcome and there's a courtesy trailer if you ask nicely.

  • 8 wheeler steel or alloy bin, 14 to 15 tonne. Same footprint, more in the bin.
  • Artic tipper 20 tonne. Bulk muck away where there's room to turn.
  • Truck and trailer 30 to 35 tonne. Big cuts and long hauls.

The fine print

PayingEFTPOS or card at the gate. Credit cards cost 2.5% extra. Account customers pay by the 20th of the month after the invoice.
WeighingMetal is sold by weight over the weighbridge. Cubic metres are a rough guide only. Tipping loads get checked against payload.
Dodgy loadsIf it's not clean it goes back out the gate with you. If we find it after you've tipped, you pay what it costs us to deal with it.

FAQs

Things people ask at the gate

What counts as clean fill?

Clean, dry stuff that came out of the ground: clay, soil, rock or topsoil, with nothing else mixed in. No concrete, brick, timber, greenery, plastic or rubbish.

If it's got concrete, brick, old asphalt or roots through it, that's mixed fill. It costs more because we have to pay the government levy on it.

Do I need to fill anything in?

One page, once. It's a cleanfill declaration that says where the dirt came from and that it's not contaminated. After that you just pull up at the hut.

How do you charge for tipping?

Trailers through six-wheelers are a flat price per load by truck size, up to a payload. Eight-wheelers, artics and truck and trailers go over the weighbridge and pay by the tonne. Heap a six-wheeler way past ten tonne and the extra gets charged by the tonne too.

Tonne or cube for metal?

Tonne. Everything's weighed. The price list gives a rough cube price next to it so you can compare with quotes you've had elsewhere, but the docket says tonnes.

What's the smallest load of metal you'll sell?

Half a tonne. Trailers are welcome, and there's a courtesy trailer at the yard if you don't have one.

Do you deliver?

Yep. It's cartage plus the metal. Local is Dairy Flat, Albany, Silverdale and Kumeu; anywhere else we'll price by the suburb. Book it online or ring.

Can you take my dirt away and bring metal back?

That's the whole point. Book a truck, tell us which way round you want it, and we'll load metal here first, tip it at yours, load your spoil and bring it back. Cartage is by the hour, tipping is at the normal rate.

What about wet clay or slop?

Wet clay's usually fine, just ring first so we know it's coming. Slop with no structure we price on the day, and if the yard's soft we might have to say no.

How do I pay?

EFTPOS or card at the gate. Credit cards are 2.5% extra. Account customers get one invoice a month, due on the 20th of the month after.

What are the hours?

Monday to Friday 7 to 5, Saturday 7 to 12. Shut Sundays and public holidays. If you're a regular and need something outside those hours, ring and we'll see what we can do.

What you get

Good to know

  • Same day if you're quick. Book before 10 and we'll usually get a truck to you that afternoon.
  • By the hour, yard to yard. One hour minimum. Tell us the access so the driver isn't sitting there on your dime.
  • Tip slots. Big units and multiple loads run smoother if we know you're coming. A single trailer can just turn up.
